The People of Brazil
<name here>
In this project, we look at the Amazon rainforest (located in the North West of Brazil, see map) and how it affects the lives of the people who live Brazil.
Agriculture
Mineral resources are extensive, including quartz crystal, industrial diamonds, chrome, iron ore, phosphates, coal, manganese, zirconium, beryllium, petroleum, mica, graphite, titanium, copper, gold, oil, bauxite, zinc, tin, and mercury. Brazil also ranks among world leaders in the production of sugar cane which is used to produce not only refined sugar but also alcohol for fuel, castor beans, cocoa, maize, and oranges. Other important crops are soya beans, tobacco, potatoes, cotton, rice, wheat, cassava, and bananas. The fishing industry, although hampered at first by lack of capital, storage facilities, and canneries, grew considerably in the 1970s. In the early 1990s the catch was about 800,000 tonnes annually, including shrimp, lobsters, and sardines. In all, agriculture contributed 12.8 per cent of Brazil’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 1995. Making agriculture one of Brazil’s best economic incomes. Over the next 10 years, Brazil should keep these plantations because they are a very large source of income.
Builders
All across the rainforest, builders are tearing down trees for wood, paper and to make room for buildings and the like. This has to stop as soon as possible if the life of the rainforest is to be prolonged. All the nutrients from the forest are in the trees, therefore, if the builders kill a tree… They’re killing part of the forest. It’s not just the trees either. Many people and animals live in the rainforest and depend on it for life, work and to support their families. As for the 10 year plan… Don’t let any more trees get chopped down. Corner off any sections of the forest that you don’t want chopped down or the forest will be completely destroyed within 10 years. So, they must act now while there’s still time to save the rainforest. Otherwise, many peoples lives will be over along with the life of the rainforest.
